or 2.
I adopted Skittles about 4 years ago from the classified ads on my company's intranet site. Knowing he was coming to me as an indoor/outdoor kitty, I had plans to keep him inside, showing him the good, safe life.
Well, in the 4 years that I've owned him, his anxiety has gone through the roof. A few months ago, prior to purchasing our house, I had taken him to the vet. She suggested Prozac. And so Skittles got his very own account at the pharmacy ;D Much calmer, but still quite intent on getting outside. Mom (me) still not allowing it as we lived in an apartment, and it just wasn't too safe.
Months later, we moved to our first single family home, in Kirkland. A yard, quiet neighborhood. I decided that Skittles would be better off having his time outside. And so he quickly became the indoor/outdoor kitty he's always wanted to be- and has never looked back since. He spends a few afternoon hours outside, coming in well before dark. And so far, he's loving it.
I know, I'm the type to keep them in for their own safety. But in his case, quality over quantity ruled. Keeping him in was a jail sentence of 4 years. I know there are risks for him out there- but he's a gambling kind of guy, and so be it.
