Hehehe, so Cabo lost about 2% of his hair today.
Clippers charged and at the ready, the poor boy didn't stand a chance...except that I underestimated how much fuzz that boy truly grows!
Must touch up tomorrow...kind of afraid to see what it looks like cuz I did this in the semi-dark. I'm sure it'll look like he got into a tango with a weed eater.
He was a very good boy- first time in the wash rack- got himself a mini-bath. And he fell asleep getting clipped. Hopefully he was standing straight so the lines look normal, LOL.

Apparently i have a knack for clipping a wet horse in the dark! LOL
Just a little stray hair here and there...and voila! naked-necked pony!
Still has a shred of dignity...especially after i put his blankie on him.

He looks so happy and healthy! Thank you so much for taking him and giving him the time off he needed. I could never have afforded all the work he needed. I cant wait to come up and see him! I do miss him lots. He is a very special horse.

It's been my pleasure! Cabo is definitely a special guy, and totally worth all the work put into him, and more! It's funny, how things work out. I remember when Cabo was on the feedlot, and I remember thinking to myself that I NEEDED him in my life. LOL. But for whatever reason, I just wasn't ready to add a 3rd horse. Maybe cuz having a 3rd is crazy. I always believe things happen for a reason- whatever is to be will be...and i find it amusing that after all those months of wanting Cabo in my life, in he came. You definitely need to come up to see the lil fuzz ball! Maybe some time in 2009...at least while gas prices are still low!

He spoke to me too. There was just something about him that screamed that he needed to go home with me. There was alot of interest in him when he was put up for adoption and I knew that all those people couldnt be the right home for him and that I was at least the perfect person to get him over some humps in his life.
In the year and a half we were partners we both over came alot.
He over came lots of his fears. You couldnt touch his butt, girth or take your feet out of the stirrups without him coming out of his skin. He ponied my filly after much practice and even became very patient with her when she became stubborn and didnt want to move. He learned that the rope being swung from off his back wont eat him and that tarps are pretty cool to walk over when being rode.
I was able to begin my healing process. I had adopted Cabo on what would have been Buds 19th birthday about 2 weeks after I put Bud down. It was the best move I could have made for both Ally and myself.
I dont know if you read the forum about when they first met. It was late at night and Julie had just got done telling me that Cabo was boss man at her place, I was worried he would boss around Ally. But when they were introduced lil Miss 5 month old Ally walked right up to Cabo and tried to nurse on him. The look on his face was priceless! Poor guy didnt know what to do!
He became a father figure to her, teaching her to defend her food and stand up to other horses. She took on a OTTB that was 17 hands but looked more like 19 hands when he tried to get to her grain. That guy was shaking when she got done with him, she was about 1 year old and 11 hands at the time.
Cabo was very watchful of the young babies at the QH breeding barn we boarded at for a few months. Whenever the babies were turned out he would sit at the fence and nicker at them and look so concerned and longing to be near them. He is a great baby sitter, but was terrified when he saw the Icelandic ponies at the Mane Event.
He is one cool horse and something special. Once his wall starts to crumble and he lets you into his world he is unstoppable in what he can do and learn.
He loves trails and will pretty much go over and through anything, he is very calm and relaxed on the trail. Completely different horse then in the arena. And he had no problem clearing a wheelbarrow from a standstill in his stall when he was up visiting Julie.
I too believe that things happen for a reason. Its all part of the master plan, I just let things fall in place and accept it be it happy or sad. I know we have no way to predict the future or change ones outcome in life, but we can change and predict how we will deal with it and accept it.
I need to get my butt in gear and get on Ally and get her started at least walking when asked to while steering. This shall be a challenge bareback! I am going to keep trying to get more then $250 for my saddle but am not going to go any lower, its only 3 1/2 years old and in great shape. But sadly its way to narrow for Ally's wide shoulders and withers. So bareback it shall be until I can afford a saddle for her. Good exercise for me!!!
