Miss Casssie arrived home safely yesterday afternoon. Prior to her trip home, I went up to see Jon work with her. She did great! She was still a little jumpy- but it wasn't because of what was being asked of her- it was just from working with a new human. All the same, Jon is very quiet, calm, and methodical- so she did really well.
he showed me how he was working to soften her up- she has a lot of brace in her head & neck- ESPECIALLY with strangers. Thats like her coping thing- she just freezes and won't give. But he's gotten really far with her- she was lowering her head for him, and giving from side to side.
He took her out of the arena and was w/t/c up the road and throughout the property- her ears perked forward the whole time. She really digs getting out and doing stuff.
So, Jon thinks she'll make a fine riding horse, and encouraged me to get her working every day. He said the best thing is to take her out on trails, through property, let her get comfortable that way carrying a rider in an engaging environment all the while working on bending and things mostly from a halt.
Sounds good, except there are no trails from my boarding facility, and i have no way to haul her out. Not sure if i need to be looking for a new place to board, cuz I really like where we are at now, with exception to the lack of trail access.
So I guess we'll just work with what we have, and hope for the best For now all we have is a wee arena- and some space out front to tool around in when it has been dry.
