So, Cabo's owner really sucks. Between work and wedding planning, he has not gotten much attention other than his basic needs like food, water, stall, turnout.
We moved- loved the barn where I was at, but without truck & trailer, and no one at the barn with one, needed to find a place with more onsite riding spaces. And so I did, and so we moved with a friend, to board together.
The good news/bad news is that this new barn is really neat. Bigger stalls, dutch doors, a private 2 acre pasture to themselves...bigger indoor, outdoor riding too...but...and here it is... its partial care. someone turns out for me 6 days a week, and cleans stalls 2 days a week, but i do the rest. I really don't mind, because i'd 100% prefer to be in total control of the horses' care anyway- its just a major time sap at a point in time when i should probably have them in full care, LOL. Ohh, the irony.
But, because there is an indoor, and there is extra daylight, and because they are total neatniks so it takes about 2 seconds to clean each stall, the ponies have been also been getting worked...sort of. Since this is Cabo's thread, I'll talk about his.
Yesterday we got to ride, and i got to try my western saddle on him for the first time- it was pretty comfy, but definitely needs to be broken in a little. i need a nice long trail ride in that sucker.
i wasn't intending on riding, more desensitizing princess because the 2 of them are completely herd bound (rightly so, they spend their entire days together)...but it has to stop. Whoever is the one left behind has a complete and utter hissy fit- even if left in the company of other horses.
The one with me is fine. So yesterday was Cassie's turn to deal with it on her own. Unfortunately i have to close the top dutch door so she can't try to jump out. So i tied cabo outside of her stall, groomed and tacked, and then shut her door. Then i walked him over to my friend and we started chatting.
Cassie got worked up, but much less than i expected. So i had to wait to return Cabo until she was definitely calm, so we walked into the arena and i figured, ehh, let's just ride a little. so i tied up the lead rope into reins and off we went. He's so cute. I love that little guy.
More Cabo cuteness: he totally comes when called...90% of the time, LOL. He loves going to his stall, and he loves being loved on. I could stand there all day and kiss his nose. He's my favorite...shhhh... Especially when Appy mare is being a pill which is lately. Hard to love a witch, ya know? LOL
